Soap Trailer Music

We looked into the different styles of music used in existing trailers so we could get some ideas for the music we would like to use in our trailer. We looked at several soap opera trailers and decided that we would like to use non diegetic music that sounds more like background music than a song, it will be quite mysterious in parts, but change to more upbeat in other parts.

Filming Schedule

To create our filming schedule, we had a group meeting with all of our group members and all of our cast. This enabled us to schedule filming into times when everyone was able to attend. We agreed on dates and times with everyone and wrote rough notes on it. We then used these to create our filming schedule which included each scene, the date of filming, the time of filming, which actors were needed, the location and directions of how to get there. A copy of this was handed to each member of the cast to ensure they were aware of the filming plans.

The filming schedule can be seen here:

Poster Development

We experiemented with a few ideas and designs for our poster. Firstly we took a photo of eyes and photoshopped them into a black background and changed the lighting settings to make it look more mysterious. This can be seen here:

Secondly we took a photo of someone and photoshopped them into a different backgorund. We tried this out to see the effect when it comes to putting our cast onto a black background for our poster. This can be seen here:

Magazine and Poster Layouts

As a group we had to come up with ideas for our poster and magazine. We had a meeting to discuss initial ideas, which included brainstorming all of our thoughts as to what photographs and shots we should use. We then each drew how we thought the layout for each publication should look. This meant we would have a selection of layout designs to choose from. We chose to use the magazine layout which I created and the poster layout that Matt Bigg created. We chose these because we thought they would attract the most attention, as the magazine layout was very colourful and striking, and the poster layout was very shocking and there for attention grabbing.

The poster layouts can be seen here:

Shotlists

As a group we had to create shot lists for our trailer, magazine and poster. The shot list for the trailer includes each scene we will film, the type of shot and a description. The shot lists for the poster and magazine include what photographs we will take for these publications, the type of shot they will be and a description of what will be in each photo.

I contributed to this task by creating the shot list for the trailer and poster, and contributing the lighting descriptions to the magazine shot list.

All three shot lists can be seen on our group blog here:

Casting Pensiors

As we will be using actors of the age of 18 for our older characters, we will need to use good costume and makeup to make them appear older. We justified how we would do this to make it look as convincing as possible to the audience.

I contributed to this piece of work by suggesting that we use darker make up to give an aged skin effect, and using talcum powder to create grey hair.

Character Change - Jennys Parent

During auditions, we auditioned a male characters for the role of Jennys parent, even though initially we said it would be a female. After seeing his performance, we decided a male role works a lot better for this character. This is because a male can be perceived as more dominant and authoritative. We have now casted Tayo O Martins to be Jennys step father.

The piece of work we created to justify this change can be seen on our group blog here:

Casting Information

We created a list of all of the actors we have chosen and taken photos of them, and then explained why we believed they were suitable for the role. We included reasons such as personalities and acting ability. I contributed to this piece of work by taking the photos and writing down the reasons as to why we chose the actors.
